Gods & Spirits I have chosen to look at Native indain belief and Egyption gods,
they are two very different cultures and treat there animals in
different ways and also different in the way they represent or 'see'
them. So i would like to bring this difference to light in our
exhibition.
My work ‘Gods & Spirits' is of Bastet and how she was
represented differently within Egyptian culture. She was mainly depicted as a
cat goddess or half cat and half human goddess thus meaning there is difference
within this culture its self of how she was seen. The life totem pole is a representation
of my life but does not have animals seen within Native Indian culture since animals that will affect
the pole would depend on animals within the area. So this shows difference of
culture over different areas.
The falcon represents the birth totem, the spider represents the shadow totem
of an inner fear, and the cat represents the Journey totem an animal that shows
up often in my life, the dragon represents the Lifelong totem. Though these
animals do not all appear in Native Indian totem poles since these animals do
not live in that area so, they are not known to them but it is said that any
animal can be your “totem”
